Why SVG Instead of PNG or JPG

When you convert a PDF page to PNG or JPG, you get a raster image. Raster images have a fixed pixel size. Enlarge them beyond their original resolution and they become blurry or pixelated.

SVG is a vector format. It describes shapes, lines and text using mathematical coordinates rather than pixels. An SVG image looks sharp at any size, from a 50-pixel thumbnail to a 10-meter billboard, because it is redrawn at the viewing resolution.

SVG is also text-based XML, which means it is editable in text editors, manipulable with code, searchable for text content and smaller in file size than equivalent raster images for graphics with flat colours and simple shapes.

When PDF to SVG Is the Right Choice

SVG is ideal for logos, icons, diagrams, charts and technical illustrations where clean lines and text must remain sharp at any size. If the PDF content is primarily vector-based line art and text rather than photographic content, SVG will produce superior results to any raster format.

SVG opens natively in all modern browsers, making it suitable for web use without any plugin. Web designers, front-end developers and print designers work with SVG daily.

For PDFs containing primarily photographs or raster images, PNG or JPG are better choices because those image types are already raster and the SVG format does not add any benefit for photographic content.
